Adoption Process…
Thank you for your interest in a rescued bully! We take the adoption process very seriously and hope you will, too. We want you to think this decision through and be fully aware of the challenges that come with pet ownership. We want you to treat the animal as a full participating member of your household. Adopting a pet should be looked upon as a lifelong commitment of love and responsibility for the welfare of that animal, just as you would have for a human member of your family. Our adoption process intentionally has several steps and cannot be completed in one day.

Coat: Beautiful black brindle!
Notes: I'm Hannah. I've been loking for a home for a long time now. I'm about eleven months old, so I'm still all puppy like but am learning to be calm at appropriate times. I've been working real hard and know my basic commands like sit, down, crate, drop, and leave it. I live with another dog who i bug to play with me all the time. I also live with two grown folks and a three year old boy. We play Ninja Turtles and I'm usually the bad guy. I don't go to the bathroom in the house anymore 'cause the people don't like that. I'm spring loaded and would be great at agility. Favorite past times include looking out the window and upside-down cuddling (you'll have to see it to understand). Hit me up.

Notes: Hi! My name is uh... Ragus... yeah, that's what they call me now. I've had a few names since I came to Ring Dog Rescue, but I don't mind one bit because I'm super smart and just adore attention! I think my true calling in life was to lead a sled dog team, but since I am not really cut out for that job, I have learned to walk very nicely on my Gentle Leader. I used to be funny about my food and was reluctant to eat, so my foster parents make gravy for me. Can you believe that? Well don't, because like I said earlier, I'm smart and know it's just water, but that makes it so tasty, I gobble it all up! My roomies are 2 senior bully girls and we have lots of fun together, although sometimes I know I get on their nerves. You see, I've still got some puppy in me and am ready to play any time, but if I get too rambunctious, the 2-leggers step in and have me sit, which calms me right down. I'm very curious about small, furry creatures I see when we're on our walks, so mom thinks it's best for me to be in a kitty-free home. Can you provide a loving home with regular exercise and discipline for me? If so, I promise to be your best friend for the rest of my days!
Contact: I'm eager to meet you, so please complete the adoption application today!

Notes: Hi! My name is Kangaroo or Kanga for short! I was found in November 2006 looking for food inside of a 7-11 with my muzzle duck taped shut! Since that time I have been living in a doggie daycare. I know I'm lucky to have a safe place to stay but I can't live there forever! When I was taken it I was heartworm positive and underweight, but I have had my heartworms treated and I get to eat on a regular basis so now I'm healthy! I am looking for someone to curl up with at night as I am a very affectionate dog. I can jump a 6 foot fence so I need to be leash walked and supervised at all times, but I promise to make it worth your while!

Notes: Dreama is high energy and filled with love. Saved by a crazy, pit bull loving veterinarian who refused to euthanize her when her owner choose to after not giving her water for more than a week. She was nursed back to health a treated for severe dehydration and a prolapsed rectum. She is full of life and wanting a warm happy place to call home. Dreama is currently being boarded and is desperate need of a foster or forever home. She is working on her basic commands and leash etiquette. She plays well in groups but can be a bit over whelming for the couch potato type.
Contact: If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dreama, please fill out an application today. She deserves a better shot at life and all the water she desires.

Notes: Hullo there... My name is Dolli-Pop and I'm a sweet and happy three year old Hound and maybe Pit mix girl who came into the RAC&C shelter after having a litter of rugrats. I'm still working getting my figure back, and I'm ready for someone to start pampering me! Right now I'm in a foster home where I'm very well-behaved. I walk nicely on a leash, am house and crate trained, and I am one cool customer with my doggie friends--what more could you ask for in a best girlfriend?
5/27/07 Update - I have completed my heartowrm treatment and made a full recovery!
Now I need a home of my own that I can enjoy to the fullest! Please complete the adoption application if you're intersted in meeting me, or make a donation towards my heartworm treatment! I promise you won't regret it!

Notes: Although Gus Gus is not ready for adoption yet, we would like the public to know all about him and help us get him to a healthy recovery. Gus Gus was wandering a stray in a riverside park in Richmond, Va. Animal control and several citizens all tried to catch him for many weeks. A Ring Dog Rescue volunteer decided she was going to get him whether it took all day and night. With the help of her friendly 4 (and 3) legged pals, she set out to capture him and was successful. Gus Gus then went to the local animal shelter where he received his vaccines and a veterinary check. It was at RAC&C that he tested not only heart-worm positive, but had a large tumor aspirated and sent off to the lab. It came back positive for cancer cells and needed to be removed immediately. The same volunteer who captured him stepped up and offered Gus-Gus a place to stay. He was taken to the vet where the growth was removed. Now it is time with the two thumbs up from his supervising vets to go through heart-worm treatment. Ring Dog Rescue relies on donations from the public in order to do such life saving procedures. Please help us help Gus-Gus — any amount can help! We will be sure to let you know when he is all better and ready for a forever home. If you can contribute towards his care, please click on the donation button below and thanks so much!
Contact: As of Feb. 25th, we're pleased to announce he's heartworm free and ready for adoption! If you're interested in Gus Gus, please complete the adoption application.

Notes: Will I be your "Chance" of a lifetime? My name is Chance, and I am looking for my forever home. I am a very good boy with a head the size of a dinner plate, but my brain is a wee bit small! I am well behaved on a leash, and like to go for long walks, and I even go running sometimes because I have lots of energy. My foster parents think that I might be a good agility dog, because I can jump up and kiss them on the nose. They call me "Wiggle Butt" sometimes because I get so excited to see them, that I wiggle in my crate. Speaking of crates, I love mine. It makes me feel safe, and I have no problem staying in it while my foster family is at work. I am learning basic commands, and now I even sit and wait for my foster parents to walk through the door first when we go outside. And, I sit down when cars drive by on our walks. They keep saying something about a fast learner; I think they are talking about me. I like to smile and give kisses. I am very curious about the cat that lives in the house, so maybe I shouldn't be in a house with cats. I would like to have a brother or sister, but with my energy and young age, it might be better to be the only doggie in the house. I am looking for a loving owner that will take me on walks every day and continue to teach me manners and commands, so I can be a great canine citizen. I hope you will take a "Chance" on me!

Notes: Hey, have you ever seen one of those dogs that’s so skinny you can believe they're alive? That was me! My name is Slinky and I was found so emaciated that I fell over when a really nice guy stopped. I weight only 28 pounds. My foster dad has been working really hard to put some weight on me and I’m looking much healthier! I’m just so excited to be getting food. I’m good with other dogs and really don’t see what the deal with cats is all about… they’re kinda boring. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated, wormed, crate trained and I’m working on perfecting my housebreaking. You know when you meet animals that know they have been “saved”, well that’s me.
Update: 4/11/07
So I had to have a pocket of cysts on my shoulder removed. I’m not going to lie… it hurt. The stitches have been taken out and I’m back to perfect. I really want my next update to say I found a loving home. I’ll keep my toes crossed that you’ll call.

Notes: Meet little Eloise or "Ellie" for short. This poor girl was found as a stray by one of our volunteers who kindly took her in out of the cold. She's a bit skinny, but that's understandable considering where she's been. We're sure she'll fill out in no rime. We do believe that Ellie is deaf so her adopter would have to understand that and be good at working with her and perhaps even have some experience with a deaf doggie in the past. Ellie is housebroken and seems overall, very healthy. In addition, she's going to be spayed very soon.
Contact: If you're interested in adopting her, please fill out the adoption application.

Special requirement: 6 foot fence

Notes: Spanky is an energetic playful boy! He hasn't meet anyone or any dog he hasn't liked. He is fine with cats and small dogs but needs to be monitored as he plays a little rough for the little ones. He is house broken and crate trained and working on his basic commands. He is definitely small for his breed the "runt" of the bunch I am sure, and his fabulous ears set him apart! He is neutered heartworm negative up to date on his vaccines and microchipped.

Notes: Pippa was treated for mange and grew up at the Richmond City Animal Shelter. Now Pippa is in foster care, and she is house and crate trained, and she even attends doggie daycare on occasion! Her current foster home includes 4 other dogs so she is very capable of living peacefully in a home with other dogs. Pippa needs to find a loving home that is familiar with her breed as she needs to be supervised when playing with other dogs because gets very excited and needs help knowing when to stop. Pippa is SUPER smart, picks up on commands quickly, is sharp as a tack, and very eager to please...What more could you ask for?!
Contact: Please complete the adoption application if you're interested in the smart girl!

Notes: Hey there!! I'm Duke! I am a sweet and affectionate 10 month old fawn Pit Bull and maybe lab mix boy who came in to the Richmond City Shelter with my brother, King and my sister Princess, Go Figure!! In fact there's a picture of me and princess playing in the play yard, showing that I am really friendly with my dog friends! Well anyway me and my sibs were not cared for in our former life and we all came to the shelter with goofy cases of non-contagious mange. gross!! but the nice folks at the shelter hooked us up with all kinds of good medicine and we have since made a full recovery. Ring Dog Rescue pulled me from the shelter and put me up with some nice folks in a foster home. I am SO sweet and affectionate, I would be perfect for anyone looking for a good friend or another family member for a multi-dog household, or even for a first time pet owner who's interested in the bull-breeds. you fit any of these categories? I am Available now and ready to come out and play!!! My pictures don't do me justice and I'll have some new ones up soon!!!!

Notes: Our buddy Hazard came to Ring Dog Rescue as a stray and has been in foster homes for a good while now. He's really a good guy and would love to finally find a home that he can settle into for good. Hazard is currently doing well in his foster home. His foster mom reports that he rarely leaves her side, including the occasional evening snoring in bed with her, although he is crate trained and will sleep in his crate with no issues, as needed. Hazard is completely housebroken and in general, aims to please his foster mom.
This guy is fortunate enough to have two female dogs living with him (hubba hubba) and enjoys playing with them, which he does very welll. In addition, he's got a Rottweiler mix pal who lives next door and they get along just fine. If all of these dogs weren't enough, Hazard even has cats in his current foster home! He's definitely more wary of his feline housemates than his canine ones, so he is best supervised around their kind. Hazard has shown some aggressiveness in defending his food from the other dogs in the house, so some training and supervision would definitely be a worthwhile investment in this area.
Hazard tells us that he would really love a home with someone who is committed to providing him with structure, training and attention and in return, he will reward you with all the love and affection he's been saving along with the occasional snore.

Notes: Meet two wonderful sisters, Polka and Dot. These poor girls were found in the woods of Caroline County by a good samaritan who rescued them and brought them to Ring Dog Rescue. They were apparently dumped and left in the cold to fend for themselves and weighed only 15 pounds when they were found.
Polka and Dot are in a foster home now, living with a 9 year old dog and their foster mom reports that they get along just fine with the exception of a little rough play here and there. Polka and Dot also have the company of several cats who they are friendly with and like to play with, despite the occasional swat.
We'd love to adopt these two sisters out together, as they have been through so much together, Dot is the more outgoing one, while Polka is a bit on the shy side and likes to cuddle with her foster mom. Polka also tends to take her queues from her sister, Dot, and doesn't do a whole lot without Dot being nearby or doing the same. Their foster mom reports that they are coming out of their shell and like to run around the yard like puppies and play tug of war.
Contact: If you're interested in helping Polka and Dot, please email us at ringdog@ringdogrescue.org!!!!

Notes: Marlie was rescued from starvation and a terrible flea infestation late last year, but has made a full recovery. The veterinarian is now telling her foster family to stop feeding her so much because she is gaining too much weight! Due to her history, she continues to be quite shy and timid, but warms up to people gradually. Marlie's favorite things are: playing with her foster sisters and brother, peanut butter, chewing on rawhides and shredding stuffed toys and paper towels! She also has a rare talent of climbing baby gates: Marlie would do well in a home with other dogs, or an only dog receiving an overabundance of attention. She is housebroken, crate trained and leash trained. Marlie is an amazing little girl with lots of love to give.

Notes: Lucy is a young female pit bull who's had puppies and been spayed. She was found in the cold, wounded and starving, but she's really perked up now and seems fine. She's obviously been trained to "sit" and "stay" and "come," and we're working on "stand" and "down."
Lucy is incredibly affectionate to adults and happy. She gets along with cats all right but barks and growls at other dogs and children when she sees them on the street. She deserves a good, gentle family with a fenced yard, plus she gets along with other dogs when properly introduced and is supervised.
She'd be a good family dog, but not with little children. I won't let her go unless I think the family has been well-vetted and they don't want to exploit her. She deserves to be happy after what's she's been through.

Notes: Cheula is an affectionate 1 year old pit bull terrier/lab mix. Her name means "Beautiful" in Spanish, and she is truly a gorgeous girl. Cheula lived in an apartment as a puppy, but would do well in a fenced-in backyard or with an owner who can take her on frequent long walks/runs. Cheula still has a lot of puppy energy (many labs are high-spirited for 18-24 months), so she would be better with patient adult owners or older children. Cheula loves to cuddle and can be possessive of her owners- she's the perfect dog to snuggle up with on a rainy day or take long runs at Belle Isle. She is housebroken and crate-trained, spayed and updated on all her shots- ready for her forever home whenever it arrives!

Notes: BIG BOB PARKER was found wandering the streets by 2 nice ladies. When he was first found he looked like a pig, bald with sprigs of hair here and there. He has sense been fully veted and is being treated for his hair loss (non-contagious demodex). His hair is 85% back and keeps on growing. His best pal is a blind and deaf hound dog, they play wonderfully together. He is super into his people and loves a belly rub! A 6 ft. fence is required as Big Bob can easily get over a 4 ft. Big Bob is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, neutered and micro-chipped. He is continuing his treatment for his hair loss and should be completely recovered within 2 months!

Notes: Hi! My name is Kush and I am looking for my forever home. About a year ago I was purchased from a flea market by a young man that could not take care of me, but thankfully, his parents took me in. I currently live with a female Golden-Doodle and two cats; however, I am far too interested in chasing the cats so my new home should be cat-free! I attend doggie daycare, have been though boot-camp training, and am ready to be the center of someone's life. I really need to be with someone that has experience with my breed as I need an owner with a watchful eye and strong leadership.
Contact: If you're interested in meeting me please complete the adoption application today. I'll be waiting!

Notes: Cole was rescued from life on a chain by a nice couple who “purchased” him. Ring Dog Rescue stepped in to help and now he’s in a foster home where he now plays like a puppy should with other dogs and a foster family that loves him. Cole is a typical puppy who needs a lot of love and attention as well as patience as he has never lived inside before his foster home. He is doing very well with crate training, but still working on the housebreaking thing. Cole is absolutely a bundle of joy to the one lucky enough to adopt him.

Notes: Hi everyone, my name is Poomba. My foster dad named me that because he says I look like the warthog from the movie “The Lion King” (because I have a ridge/tuft of hair that runs down my back). Others say I look like an elephant/hippo/koala bear mix. My foster dad says I am the best puppy he has ever had, and boy, is he very protective of me. I love to play with all of my foster sisters, and even sniff out the family cat when she’s not looking. Snuggling in laps, playing and giving kisses are my three favorite things in the whole world.

Notes: MEMPHIS got a rough start to life. Coming in to the local shelter weighing only 27 lbs.. heartworm positive and well just a mess. Memphis is now all healthy and a fun loving boy. Due to his early days in life and lack of socialization Memphis needs a home as an only dog (possibly 1 female), NO CATS or small dogs. He is crate trained and house broken and loves to snuggle. He is a beautiful blue and white with lots of love to give.
